Tsuruya

General Supermarket located next to Iiyama Station. Has everything that you need. 3-5mins drive from the house.

Delicia

General Supermarket, slightly smaller than Tsuruya good fresh food and baked goods. 8-10mins from the house.

Cainz/Bessia

Department store and supermarket – has fresh food as well as clothes and household needs – great place for winter clothes and accessories. 10-12mins from the house.

7-Eleven

1)The closest 7-Eleven is 10mins walk from the house or 5mins by bicycle and 3 mins drive.

Workman Plus

Great place for inexpensive winter clothes including accessories – gloves, boots etc.

There are a few restaurants in this small town, here are some that we have tried and would recommend:

Waremokou

Close to Iiyama station. Japanese. Open for Lunch and Dinner – it does set lunches and dinners as well as ala carte. The high ratings on various sites are well justified. Great service, super friendly, not great English but nothing Google translate cannot solve. Its small so book in advance for dinner.

HONDA

Japanese UNAGI (EEL) Restaurant in Iiyama. If you like Eel, this is your place. Its been around since 1904, so its consistent. Service is great, please book ahead.

Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ)

飯山楽苑 I do not have the English name (I’m not sure they even have one) but this is a really good Yakiniku place. Excellent beef, they have a staff member, Olivia, originally from the Philippines, so English is no issue. The owner is Korean, so they’re happy to accommodate if you are after some Korean side dishes.

Sake Brewery

– Iiyama is the home of Mizuo Sake.
 

Tanakaya Brewing Company,Ltd.

Is located within walking distance from the house

and produces some of the best award winning sake around. The Mizuo sake itself is actually available in liquor stores and supermarkets, but going to the brewery and joining the Sake tour will give you a new new level of understanding and appreciation.
